This is the first post on the newly created blog for the laboratories and staff of Conservation & Exhibition Services at Yale University Library (YUL). We are part of the Library’s Preservation Department, which works to preserve all of YUL’s collections and ensure access for students, faculty, and scholars.
Conservation & Exhibition Services provides repair and treatment for both circulating collections checked out and used by students and faculty each day; and unique, rare and valuable books, objects, photographs, and papers found at the Beinecke Rare Book Library, Manuscripts and Archives, and other special collections. We assist Library staff and others with producing exhibits and create specialized housings as part of our preventative program to reduce the wear and tear of display and use.
This blog is intended to serve as a window into the day-to-day work of Conservation & Exhibition Services. We hope that you will follow us and enjoy seeing examples of the specialized work we do and the amazing collections that come through the laboratories.
